Lancaster Heritage
The people of Lancaster are proud of their past and look forward to future
growth. Lancaster has been a solid, conservative and wellmanaged community
since 1833. Lancaster is well known for teamwork. The people here elect
dedicated officials who relate to the community's interests.
Lancaster stands proud with its industrial history of over 140 years!
The Lancaster Glass Works, the Gould National Battery Co., planing mills,
breweries, a soap factory, brickyards, an organ factory, carriage shops
and foundries are all a part of a past that reflect themselves in the present!
The past has been preserved in Lancaster's oneroom 1868 Schoolhouse.
Another popular attraction is the Lancaster Opera House. Located on the
second floor of the Lancaster Town Hall, it is believed to be one of only
seventeen in the United States. This historic 1894 structure of extraordinary
design has been carefully restored to its original elegance. Once again,
the Opera House serves as a source of civic and cultural pride the
"heartbeat" of a growing community.
Today's children learn and share the experiences of our forefathers
in Lancaster's 1892 Historical Museum at 40 Clark Street, behind the Town
Hall.
