Education in Lancaster
- Lancaster is served by five school districts. The largest is The Lancaster
Central School District, composed of five elementary schools, a middle
school, and a high school.
- A seven member Board of Education manages the district, setting educational
policies and approving all expenditures and personnel changes.
- Education in Lancaster ranks high and well above state and national
averages. Students in Lancaster are presented with a wide variety of instruction.
Exceptional music and art courses supplement the basic curriculum.
- A large percentage of Lancaster students participate in extracurricular
activities. School clubs, student government, academic teams, competitive
sports, marching band, the steel drum band, symphonic band, and other activities

- Media/research centers and libraries provide an exceptional learning

- The school districts cooperate with the Board of Cooperative Educational
Services (BOCES) to provide daytime vocational training for several hundred
pupils, and offers programs for students with special needs.
- BOCES is an excellent service, producing highly trained graduates in
a variety of specialty and technical fields. Extensive training combined
with "handson" experience is offered in fields such as:
graphic design, computer aided drafting, data processing, printing, machine
trades and more. The BOCES job placement and followup program shows

More than 100 private, commercial and institutional research centers
employ thousands of scientists, engineers, biologists, physicists, mathematicians,
metallurgists, and technical personnel.

- Ecology and Environment, Inc. (E&E). E&E is a world leader
in providing expertise to handle difficult environmental problems. With
help from LIDA, E&E has built a $6 million headquarters in Lancaster.
- Calspan Advanced Technology Center, located on the fringes of Lancaster.
Research includes: aero sciences, flight research, transportation and auto
safety testing, communications, and electronics.
- Roswell Park Cancer Institute. As a leader in the battle against cancer
for 90 years, Roswell Park draws patients from around the world for stateoftheart
cancer care. Roswell scientists attract more than $30 million a year in
grants and contracts for the study of such fields as cell and tumor biology
and immunology.
- The State University of NY at Buffalo (SUNYBUFFALO). SUNY is devoted
to a broad program of public service. The Regional Economic Assistance
Center brings together the skills of several faculties to aid business.
Its Technology Development Center links industry with researchers to facilitate
the transfer of the latest technology. The University has established itself
as a major research center in earthquake and superconductivity research.
- The Western New York Nuclear Research Center serves industry, basic
science, and the medical field.
